Amsonia ciliata Amsonia

‘05 'Half Way to Arkansas' - An Intrinsic Introduction! The foliage is
a glossy deep green and uniformly needle-like. Pale blue flowers
cluster in May. Rounded mounds top out just over 36" tall and wide. Yellow fall color comes a bit later than the other Amsonias. Full sun to light shade in well drained to moist soil.

Antennaria neglecta Pussytoes

‘05 'Pewee' - An Intrinsic Introduction! Normally the flowers on this species reach 6-8". On this selection, they sit just above the foliage on 1" stems. In April, silver grey mats have clusters of silver flowers resembling cat paws. Native. Good small area ground-
cover. Full sun, dry sandy well drained soil. (Groundcover.)

Arabis caucasica Rockcress

'Snowcap' - Popular spring bloomer with snowy white flowers in April and May on evergreen foliage to 4". Well drained soil and full sun to light shade

 

Arisaema triphyllum Jack-In-The-Pulpit

After a dramatic two week spring emergence as a pointed spike in May, the arrow shaped leaves unfurl to reveal "Jack" in his pulpit. In summer, brilliant red fruit remain. Ephemeral. Moist, organic soil, shade
 


Armeria juniperifolia (juncea) Alpine Thrift

Tight green mounds with light pink globular flowers in April/May standing only 4". Likes well drained soil and full sun. Good retailer.

 

Armeria maritima Sea Thrift / Common Thrift

'Rubrifolia' - Deeper green foliage turns maroon red from fall
to spring and holds some red color all year. Cherry pink flower balls on short 8" stems above rounded mounds. Full sun, well
drained soil.

splendens - Mounding grass like foliage with deep pink globular flowers in May  standing about 10", likes a cool location, will rebloom sporadically in the fall. Long lived. Well drained soil, full sun.

Artemisia ludoviciana Beach Wormwood

'Valerie Finnis' - Similar to 'Silver Queen' but more robust substantial foliage and not as aggressively spreading. Grows to 24". Likes well drained soil and full sun

Asclepias tuberosa Butterfly Weed

This Illinois/Midwest native has flat clustered orange flowers in July on 2'+ stems. Lean, well drained soil. Extremely drought tolerant when established. Yellow fall color. Full sun
Aster diffusus Heath Aster

'Snow Flurry' - A new form which stays completely prostrate  only reaching 6" tall. Small white daisies almost cover the foliage September into October. Moist soil, full sun.

Aster divaricatus Woodland Aster

'Eastern Star' - Thin petaled white flowers bloom late (August-
September) on this 18" Aster. Some red fall color as well. Can
take full sun, but prefers part shade. Tolerates dry shade
Aster novae-angliae New England Aster

'Alma Potschke' - Impressive clumps of hot pink flowers in
September on 4' plants. Works well with tall fall grasses.
Moist to well drained soil, full sun.

Aster macrophyllus Bigleaf Aster

'04 'Albus' - A summer blooming native aster that is very adaptable taking full sun to shade, well drained soil. Clusters of white flowers have yellow centers on 2' stems.

 Aster tataricus Japan's Aster

'Jindai' - A different type of Aster whose leaves resemble those of Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' in size and texture. This variety stays shorter than the species at 4' and displays a large rounded cluster of light blue flowers in October. A U. S. National Arboretum introduction. Needs moist soil, full sun.

Astilbe chinensis Chinese Astilbe

'Visions' - Glowing raspberry red plumes in July to 18" above compact dark green, bronzed foliage. Tolerates dryer soils than the other Astilbe species.
Astilbe japonica Astilbe

'Deutschland' - A good white bloomer in June with glossy dark green foliage. Flowers stand at 24" 

Astilbe taquetii (chinensis) Astilbe

'Superba' - Large, tight clusters of purple tinted pink spires bloom mid July on this 48"+ Astilbe.
Aubrieta deltoidea Purple Rockcress

'Purple Gem' aka 'Whitewell Gem' - This early flowering Rockcress in various shades of purple  blooms in April at the same time as Arabis. Good for rock gardens and stone wall plantings. Requires well drained soil and full sun.   

Aurinia saxatilis Basket Of Gold

‘05 'Compacta' - Silvered foliage on low clumps reaching 1' wide. Bright yellow flowers in May on 12"+ sprawling stems. Prefers excellent drainage. Full sun.
